The main ethos of Audi is providing entry-level luxury cars, with engines starting from around the 1.6 litre mark and the top-end models socking an amazing amount of punch in a growling exhaust reminiscent the older generation sports car of yesteryear.
After a few improvements, one of the most popular sports cars in modern times - the Audi TT - has become renowned for putting in to practice sound handling in practical environments. Among the others, their A class has stood the test of time, with a diverse range of high-performance coupes and saloons.
Despite the ferocious capabilities of their cars, Euro NCAP results make for happy reading for Audi owners, averaging around four stars across the board in adult driver and passenger tests. Of particular note, the most recent Audi A6 test scored full marks and was highly commended for child safety.
Don't be fooled either by the costs - these aren't the sort of gas-guzzlers you'd expect from such high-performance engines. Running costs have been given good ratings, particularly for the turbodiesel ranges.
Inside, the A3, A4, A5 and A6 models are certainly all very glitzy, but watch out for base models, as some come without some of the standard fittings you'd expect in executive cars or saloons such as these. Fortunately, their four wheel drive models (Q7 and Allroad) usually come with all the trimmings.
