The Citroën C5, a large and successful family car, replaced the Citroën Xantia, a car that had been in production since 1993, in 2001. The C5 has a wide range of modern technological features, and they contribute to its smooth handling and outstanding level of safety. It has an attractive aerodynamic look, can carry a lot of cargo because of its elongated design and is becoming increasingly popular in its class. The current second generation is an improvement on the first, focusing greatly on comfort, style and driveability.
There are many factors that make the Citroën C5 a very comfortable car to drive and be in. For starters, the engine is barely audible, creating a serene environment inside the cabin. Hydropneumatic suspension allows you to glide over potholes and badly damaged roads and terrain. A lot of the car's perks are focused on comfort, relaxation and a refined experience on the road. The seats, for example, are electronically adjustable, giving you the ability to find your perfect driving position. Its appearance has a distinctive style and has a smooth aerodynamic finish.
Intended to be a comfortable, family car, the Citroën C5 is packed full of innovative safety features. The seats are electrically adjusted to vibrate if you start to drift outside your lane on the motorway. Hazard warning lights also come on when you brake hard, immediately alerting those behind you. The C5 features numerous airbags throughout the cabin, and the car is child-friendly with Isofix child seat anchoring making it ideal for ensuring the safety of your family. The car scored five out of five stars on the Euro NCAP crash tests for adult occupant protection, and four for child protection.
The Citroën C5 features a range of special modern technology, making day-to-day driving easier and convenient. The C5's active suspension system enables the car to lower its frame as it gains speed, making the most of the car's aerodynamics and fuel economy. The wipers and head lights both have sensors built into them to detect rain and darkness respectively, and a tyre pressure monitor keeps you from having to routinely and manually check your car over. The car even comes with parking sensors, traction control, adjustable cruise control and a system which allows you to make hill starts without the car rolling backwards. These modern conveniences make life a lot easier and safer.
In terms of comfort, appearance and safety, the Citroën C5 sits high above its competitors. It is longer than and almost as wide as Ford Mondeo, so its success in that respect is down to personal preference. The Tourer model beat off 30 contenders to be awarded the title of 'Best Estate Car' this year. This is a testament to the development and improvement of the C5 since its conception. It has worked its way up to the top of the board as far as large family cars go.
