Over the past few years, Citroen have phased in the new C range of cars. From the ultra-compact C1 supermini through to the refined quality of the C3 hatchback and to the Xsara Picasso people carrier, these new models have come in for a good reception for their sound drive and steady handling.
Generally, the Citroen's running costs are sound, but special mention must go to the C4, which for a coupe hatchback is the best for fuel economy in its class - averaging almost 50 miles to the gallon in recent tests. On the other hand, the C6 can be a very expensive venture - though it's more than made up for in the sheer extravagance the executive car provides. All of Citroen's models scored 4 stars or higher in recent NCAP crash tests for adults.
The alphanumeric coding matches the degree of specifications you can expect on each model - the C1, as a base model, comes with the sort of onboard gear you'd expect for an entry-level motor, whereas C4, Xsaras and Picassos come better equipped for family ventures and passenger comfort. The Citroen Berlingo is half-van half-MPV; not entirely equipped for large haulage, but nothing to be sniffed at in terms of engine size, either.
