The most striking and instantly recognisable Mercedes on the road today is the C-Class. The luxury compact saloon and estate cars is a joy to watch from a spectator view, and even better behind the wheel. The steering is sharp, the engine cruises well and the ride is refined through years of practice. This cool interior ride is reflected in the more family-friendly E-Class.
Mercedes have recently plugged the gap in the family stakes with their introduction of the A- and B-Class MPVs. Styled on the successful people carrier design but with a more compact look, these models - along with C, E and M Classes - scored extremely well when put through their paces at Euro NCAP safety testing.
On the majority of Mercedes A Class models, fuel economy averages above 40mpg, and on C Class the CO2 emissions have been greatly reduced.
By far and away the cream of the crop for technical specs is the S-Class, the large luxury sedan turned supercar - the engine sizes on this model can run in to the ludicrously powerful. For the alphabetised classes, data and onboard gear usually varies by denomination of each model. For van drivers, Mercedes has three options available: the Vito, for light loads; the Sprinter, for medium-range haulage; and the Vario, which can carry payloads comparable to that of a small truck.
