The recently revamped Colt is a practical and snappy mid-level car and can come in a mean 1.5 litre engine, making it adept both in town and out on the motorway. Their iconic 4x4, the Shogun, is particularly popular in its diesel versions, providing the rugged pull of old combined with the stylish modern driving experience, and also comes in a Sport edition driven towards more terrain-tackling drivers.
Mitsubishi put in below-par performances in the late nineties when Euro NCAP first came into practice, but later models from around 2001 onwards showed distinct improvements. The Outlander 4x4 scored particularly well for the 2007 test.
Fuel efficiency scores decently across the range for the Japanese manufacturer who, like its country's peers, is noted for their cars' strong reliability.
Keep an eye out for the Colt CC model, which looks snazzy with the roof down and come with all the equipment you'd expect inside. Their top saloon car, the Lancer, is well equipped for the passenger- or family-friendly drive, and can come in a range of appealing upholstery and trim, with a nifty engine under the bonnet ranging from 1.6-2.0 litres.
