Volvo's latest designs come in four major classes - C class (primarily hatchbacks), S class (executive cars), V class (mid-size people carriers) and X class (4x4s and crossover SUVs). For the majority of these cars, independent reviews guide What Car? rate Volvos with strong handling and a practical driving experience.
Since the introduction of the Euro NCAP test, Volvo has lived up to its good reputation for passenger and driver safety, scoring outstanding marks across its ranges for both adults and children alike. Reliability scores highly, with the V40 and S40 ranking particularly highly in recent studies.
Volvos are a fair price for their fuel consumption - neither excessively economic nor posing any danger of breaking the bank.
Even for the basic models of coupe, standard kit in the cabin is plentiful. Volvo's city cars certainly aren't for the first-time buyer; they accommodate luxury family comfort with a practical engine for both inner city and motorway travel. C30 and C70 models start from 1.6 litre engines, whereas the executive ranges come in around the 2 litre mark. The larger SUVs such as the XC60 and XC90 can run in to the 4 litre capacity.
